Singer-songwriter
Élodie Tremblay
Plateau-Mont-Royal, Montréal
I moved to Montreal from Rimouski with a guitar and a notebook full of half-finished songs. I spent two years playing open mics where nobody listened and bars where the television was louder than me. Then a friend asked why I didn't simply invite people to my apartment.
That first evening—eight people on my living-room floor, no microphone, no stage—was the best show I'd ever played. The songs here are always new, sometimes unfinished, and I usually change the ending based on how the room feels.
I make a terrible Old Fashioned, but I'll make you one anyway.

She stopped mid-song to explain where it came from. You don't get that anywhere else.

Nine of us on the floor and a guitar. I've thought about it every week since.

Warm, unpolished, completely worth it.
